Price reductions, ear infections and testes

In order of occurrence: we reduced the price of the house yesterday by $10G to try to make it sell, Christine has an ear infection, and now both of Nicholas testes are undescended.

Our real estate agent had told us when we put the house on the market that most action is usually seen in the first 3 weeks at which point she often recommends a price reduction to keep interest high or regenerate interest. Things went exactly that way: for the first 3 weeks or so, we had visitors almost every second day, but then it dropped off completely, having only had 2 visits in the last 2 weeks. So yesterday, we decided to take a price reduction and indicate that the house is available for immediate occupancy. We'll see if any of that helps. Everything had been as close as perfect as possible for us to make this decision to move, but the market crash is really making things difficult. It seems no one wants to make the investment in a house. Oh well... we'll see...

On the second topic: Christine had been coughing for about a week and last night she barely touched her dinner and complained of an earache... I told her we'd call the Dr in the morning to have a look at her ears. Well, at about 11pm last night, she woke up coughing and it was phlegmy. She was coughing so hard I think she scared herself and she was crying hard. That woke up Nicholas, so I had to somehow attend to both. Anyway, after calming her down and getting him back to sleep, I went back to check on her and she was back asleep but breathing very hard. I had a terrible time falling back asleep, wondering if she was choking on something or if I should be bringing her to ER... but we ended up all sleeping until after 7:30 this morning. Her breathing is back to normal and cough is still bad, but she seems to be moving things in her chest so she must be getting through something. We got in at the Dr this morning and 10 and she does indeed have an ear infection in her right ear. Her throat looks red, but likely from all the coughing. Her lungs are clear. I hope to pick up her prescription early this afternoon and hopefully it will act fast!

As for Nicholas... We had an ultra-sound on the 14th to confirm the location of the one testicle (left) that was undescended since birth. That morning, I noticed that the other one seemed to not be in the scrotum either, so I asked them to have a look there as well. While at the Dr's office this morning, we got to talk about this too. The Dr was surprised by the ultra-sound result that showed that both were up and he checked for himself. Turns out they seem to have gone up even higher than they were... The ultra-sound report reads "There are well-defined hypoechoic solid nodules seen in both inguinal canals measuring 2.2 x 1.0 cm on the right and 1.6 x 1.0 cm on the left. No testicles are seen within the scrotum. Findings are consistent with bilateral undescended testes." He said it is quite likely that as he's getting stronger, the muscles in that area are getting stronger and pulling them up even more. Oh dear... He felt that maybe having both of them undescended would increase the priority level of seeing a specialist, so was going to follow up on that. He'll likely need surgery, but it's not clear if it's something that will be urgent enough to warrant seeing someone at CHEO before we leave or if this can wait until we're in NB. We'll see...

Julie:) I really am enjoying your posts. I love to keep in the loop about my of favourite angels;) If you do end up at Cheo, I'm sure you will find that the urology department is quite good. We were there a few times with David for a hydrocele and really liked the care we got. (David ended up not needing surgery thank goodness, but keeping an eye on things is always a good idea!) I hope Christine's ear infection clears up quickly and am still crossing my fingers and praying for someone to fall in love with your house very very soon!

Sorry to hear about all of the complications - as if you need more to deal with right now! As Greg put it, trying to sell your house, being on your own with the kids, Christine's ear, and now Nicholas' nutsack. Greg's going to kill me, but I thought it was a cute comment. I really hope Nicholas doesn't need surgery though. This just reinforces my hunch that boys are very complicated! Good luck with all of the "challenges".

I mostly agree... boys are more difficult and complicated... at least at this age, but I think girls will be worse in the later years... And don't worry Lys, Greg won't be as mad at you about writing that as Nicholas will be with me for telling you all about his nutsack :) Maybe he'll never find out!

We did know about this issue since he was born, but we were all hoping that it would correct itself on its own. It was also just one before but is now both. Surgery is typically recommended before they are 2 if it doesn't, but the thinking may have changed - who knows. Hopefully we'll find out soon. We liked the idea of going to Cheo vs. another hospital out East because we have so many places we could stay and we'd have to visit you guys!

I guess this thing is serious enough... I just got a call from CHEO with an appointment for next Wednesday at 10:30... We'll see...
